Who can learn to SCUBA dive?
Veterans with the following conditions have enjoyed SCUBA diving:
•Paralysis (paraplegic & quadriplegic)
•Amputations including multiple limbs
•Traumatic brain injuries
What conditions are incompatible with diving?
Individuals with heart, lung, or seizure disorders are contraindicated with diving. All medical conditions are reviewed prior to class and admittance into the class depends on the safety of the individual based on the impact of their medical diagnosis.
Loma Linda University PossAbilities Program provides access to the Drayson Center heated swimming pool and coordinates participants and outside instructors.
Why learn to SCUBA dive?
The recognition that SCUBA diving may provide valuable physical and emotional therapy for individuals with disabilities is growing. SCUBA diving is fun! Make new friends and get to know others who have ”been there” too.
Can SCUBA help with PTSD?
Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) have reported finding tranquility in the water and relief from their tension and stress for a time, even after the dive.
