Team PossAbilities Para Cyclists are back with some very good news to report.
As some of you know we just got back from Madison Wisconsin. When I say we I am referring to Cotie, Pedro, Owen and I. Madison was the venue for The Para cycling national championship. Madison was amazing place from the people to the weather and all the fun things you can do there. Our hotel was smack dab in the middle of the University of Wisconsin’s downtown area so there was everything you needed in walking distance. I can’t wait to go back next year.
On to the racing. I competed in the TT on the 4 of July. Since I was not allowed to buy fireworks to my chagrin I tried to make some of my own. After conquering a 12% and 8% hill that they decided to slap in the middle of the TT. I ended up with a Third place finish. More importantly I achieved my first negative split. I’m excited about that negative split because I completely stuck to my game plan and executed it, save those two mountains in the middle (OUCH). I also get a second chance at the exact course next year. So I have to say Independence Day 2013 was an awesome day.
Next was the Road Race. I really enjoyed racing on this course. It was a very fast course with two slight hills with a gradual decent to the finish line. The weather was perfect in the morning, and then it got HOT. Thanks to the guys at Redlands Cyclery for suggesting my new arms sleeves that helped me to stay cool enough to net me a Second place finish. I also once again stuck to my game plan and each lap of the 4 I completed got faster. I can’t decide what’s more exciting, finishing 2 and 3 in my races or executing my game plan.
So this season ended better that it started. I got my bike repaired and I have also learned so much about cycling. Plus I won Silver and a Bronze medal at Nationals. This makes me very eager to see what awaits me on my,” Road to Rio.”
The National championship race was the last race on the domestic race calendar. Next were off to Matane, Canada in late August.
Once again I would like to thank PossAbilities for theater sponsorship and undying support.
I’ll post again soon and let you know how Canada goes.
