Racing in Kona!

Racing in Kona!

While in Hawaii, I also did a Sprint Triathlon in Kona, on the Big Island. It was filmed by the Deep Blue Films crew for Mormaii. That island is dreamy, and also the Mecca where our sport (Triathlon) was born –more specifically, the Ironman. While I’m not ready for an Ironman, ( plus I have another goal) we raced on the exact same places, same transition place and all. It was the most beautiful place I raced in my life! The swim part feels like you’re inside an aquarium: there’s coral, fish, turtles, warm water! Then the bike and run portions all go thru the beautiful village of Kona, always right next to (or very close to) the ocean. Really good memories from this one, good times!

    Hello Andre!
Sounds like Kona was a great event for you! I had the pleasure of watching an Ironman Triathlon right there in Kona back in October 1983. Many cycling friends and running buddies went over that year for fun and some to participate in the event. Back then, I was an avid cyclist and thought about racing. At the time, I competed in many biathlons and century rides.

Just wanted to wish you well and best wishes to you as you keep working towards Rio! I have a pole vaulter for a son (Peter Chapman, Univ. of South Dakota) who would love to go to Rio with you. A future dream!

    Happy and safe cycling,
