Paddlers Blog-San Diego Race

Paddlers Blog-San Diego Race

So this weekend my Winter Series paddling took me to Bonita Cove in Mission Bay
down in San Diego.
The race went very well.
It was a very foggy day in San Diego,
but still, over 300 racers turned out
on canoes, standup boards, kayaks,
prone boards and surf skis.
[The above photo was taken from the shore, and it was pretty foggy. So you can imagine how thick it was out in the Bay closer to the ocean.]
The race ran for about an hour,
I finished in 43:07 and 20th across the
line. Ranking 1st in my respective
division of OC-1/V-1 craft.
They give out mugs for awards , but I prefer medals.
Still, I enjoyed the competition and the challenge of the fog.
The best part was being able to wear my new Team PossAbilities gear
to accept my award.
This weekend we have an “Off” Saturday, that I will use
for ParaSprint training when I connect with a group of “Elite” California Paddlers
that are gracious enough to share their experience and training techniques
with me.

My next race will be on the following weekend in Newport Beach at the NAC facilities.
